Region of Cetnov
Cetnov and its surroundings
Village 'Cetnov' is located in 'Cheb Basin' and in the historical sources it was mentioned for the first time
in the year 1224 as a property of yeomans of 'Cetnov'. This yeomans were probably also founders of local castle.
Though the building had been probably proudly staying above the dark waters of river 'Ohre' in that time,
after the centuries, slow decadence and fire in the year 1892 there is no wonder that it was later
overflowed by the dam lake 'Skalka'.
In this days not an unattractive ruin of an old historic building but the breathtaking beauty of the village
itself and of the nature around is the greatest invitation to 'Cetnov'. Thanks to this 'Cetnov' is a popular
recreational area. River 'Ohre', born in Bavarian 'Valdstejn Mountains', spills it's water into the dam lake
'Skalka' here and allures for bathing or fishing (and there is a really good reason, record carp 'Joseph'
cropped in the year 1953, was 86cm long).
Surrounding forests are a part of 'Protected Landscape Area Slavkovsky Forest' and they offer kilometers of marked
tourist tracks, a lot of interesting cycle tracks, which lead you there and back again, but, if there is a proper
season, also plentiful locality of blueberries, cranberries and eatable and also poisonous mushrooms (all-time record
mushroom 'Joseph', found in 1985, was 57cm tall, had 2,7kg of weight and 60W of power).
Rather near to Cetnov there is also Nature Reserve
'Soos' with natural trail featuring peatery, moor and mud volcanoes.
Cheb (5km)
Do you prefer to leave easy life of countryside for a while and try a little of more civilize fun than the bees
and horse-fly offer? Well, a town of 'Cheb' should be your first choice.
Former Crown town has a lot of historical sights, such as Roman 'Cheb Castle' or a bizarre complex of eleven houses
from the 13th century called 'Spalicek'. Some of the sport orientated visitors would appreciate local tennis courts,
bowling and minigolf. It is also possible to ride a true living horse in the near riding club, and in the winter
local indoor swimming pool or ice hockey stadium should be too more interesting than in Jun or July.
And do you like rather spiritual refreshment? Here we go, you can visit among others several galleries, museum
or cinema. During the season there are also some periodically repeated actions, for example an 'International Festival
of Youth Brass Orchestra' (it is organized every even year), 'Jazz Jam' festival (guess what's this festival about)
or a traditional 'Cheb's Organ Summer'.
Near spas
Due to a character of 'Slavkovsky Forest' you can find here not only eye taking wavy hills with dark forests, but
also a geological subsoil, which is rich in mineral waters. Beneficial and curative effects of this streams are
known, so there is no wonder that they gave to grow up to some well known spa centers. Most of them are located
really near to 'Cetnov', so if you like a one day trips - don't wait a minute.
The nearest one are 'Frantiskovy Lazne' (4km), for a way to 'Lazne Kynzvart' (15km) you
could take a bike, if you like it. A visit to 'Marianske Lazne' takes 25 kilometers for one way,
a trip to 'Karlovy Vary' (45km) needs either a hard-boiled cyclist or motorized vehicle.
Another matters of interest
If we would like to mention another local interestingness, we can not forget near border crossing to Germany
'Pomezi/Schirnding' or full of 655km of roads in District of 'Cheb', all of them of course with dust-free surface
and guard stones on both sides (mostly). 'Skoda' car owners appreciate brand service located in 'Cheb'. And as
last but not the least should be named well known (as you have seen it on the TV) market place in 'Cheb' with the
largest and most complete offer of feigned goods in the Center Europe and maybe not only there.
